EVOLUTION SERIES Trade Shows BY MEGAN SMALLEY 1916 2 016 100 years Trade shows serve as a way for manufacturers to showcase their equipment to customers The past 100 years Pit Quarry regularly reported on the trade shows that pertain to the aggregate industry including association conventions ConExpo Con Agg MINExpo International and AGG1 Aggregates Academy Expo The size of aggregate industry trade shows has increased over the years growing from small hotel shows for a few thousand people to large trade shows with record breaking attendance levels Regardless of a shows size the trade show has always been a great place for industry members to network and to acquire knowledge on equipment and best practices In the early 1900s most trade shows took place in hotels such 1936 as the National Crushed Stone Associations NCSA 19th annual convention in 1936 in St Louis Manufacturers brought elaborate brochures and posters to showcase their machines capabilities The National Sand Gravel Producers Association hosted 1918 its inaugural convention in February 1918 at the Great Northern Hotel in Chicago Members gathered to discuss transportation conditions and best practices for plant operations Each month in 2016 the Evolution Series highlights industry advancements over the past 100 years as seen in the pages of Pit Quarry 1926 As a regional trade show the All Western Road Show gathered road builders aggregate producers and highway officials in January 1926 in Chicago 74 PIT QUARRY September 2016 pitandquarry com
