OPERATIONS support from our Chicago office Balagna says The Henry site operates nine to ten months a year depending on the weather and product demand We do our repair work major maintenance and plant changes in the winter months Balagna says We have a heated shop with an overhead crane where we can do most of our rebuilds Last year the winter was so mild that we loaded barges all winter long Our port never did freeze up Big market The primary market for the material is Chicago says Aaron Ozinga and the material is delivered to our network of eight docks there ranging from Joliet to downtown Chicago to the southeast side We also deliver material south by barge to Peoria and beyond Once the material reaches the dock terminals in Chicago it is put in bins for retail sale to the Chicagoland area Some of the material uses include Concrete sand Asphalt sand Concrete stone Asphalt chips Chip seal Roof ballast Road base Bedding stone Landscaping Total production is about 500000 Wheel loaders feed material to the plant 22 PIT QUARRY September 2012 www pitandquarry com
