THE LATEST ON EQUIPMENT TECHNOLOGY Terex Corp announces leadership changes merger Superior acquires crusher manufacturing plant Superior Industries reached an agreement to purchase the assets of FLSmidths crusher manufacturing plant in Pekin Ill According to Superior FLSmidths Pekin plant spans 70000 sq ft The facility has been in production for 10 years and employs 30 production workers Superior plans to use the acquired facility as a U S based manufacturing center for cone crushing equipment In addition Superior acquired Parcan Group a Brazilian based conveyor idler and pulley manufacturer According to a press release Parcan manufactures three models of conveyor idlers a heavy duty line a light to Superiors Pekin Ill plant medium duty line and a style dedicated for high impact situations Superior says Parcan builds conveyor pulleys for belt widths of 24 in to 96 in and refurbishes used pulleys T erex Corp announced a number of senior executive changes George Ellis takes on the role of senior vice president of operations planning and president for Terex Construction Scott Hensel vice president of Terex Services North America was named to the newly created position of vice president and managing director of Terex Utilities and Services Kieran Hegarty president of Terex Materials Processing assumes management responsibility for the Terex Fuchs business which will become part of the Terex Materials Processing segment Ken Lousberg president of Terex China takes on the role of president of Terex Cranes as well as the responsibility for Latin America Tim Ford president of Terex Cranes is leaving the company to pursue other opportunities In addition Terex recently announced a merger with Konecranes in which Terex shareholders will own about 60 percent of the combined company The new company will be named Konecranes Terex and be incorporated in Finland while maintaining headquarters in the U S and Finland Precision Pulley Idler purchases Canadian conveyor pulley manufacturer Precision Pulley Idler PPI headquartered in Pella Iowa acquired RAS Industries of Surrey British Columbia Canada The integration of the companies will occur over the next few months reports PPI The acquisition of RAS will enhance our product offering for the global market while allowing us to increase our range and reach of services and technical assistance to customers says Roger Brown president and CEO of PPI The goal of PPI through this acquisition is to continue to provide high levels of service to its customers and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with them PPI is a manufacturer of pulleys CEMA rated idlers and accessories It has five U S locations Metso to close manufacturing plant in Pennsylvania Metso will close manufacturing operations at its York Pa plant on March 31 2016 The decision affects about 80 employees The companys other business operations in the York offices will not be affected According to Metso the market outlook in the mining industry remains unchanged but the company continues to transform its mining business operations by implementing a leaner business model and employing a light assets and sourcing concept to meet customer demands and maintain improved operating results The mining industry is changing their business model to cope with the current market outlook says João Ney Colagrossi president of the minerals business area for Metso This is a permanent change in the mining industry and we need to find new and more efficient ways to run our business After careful evaluation of our supply chain model as well as the current and future workload we did not see any other option than to close the York manufacturing plant This is a very unpleasant but necessary action for us Earlier this year the company closed its manufacturing operations at its Lachine manufacturing plant in Quebec Canada The closing of that plant affected 191 employees 14 PIT QUARRY October 2015 www pitandquarry com
