UPtoSPEED ACQUI S ITIONS Komatsu Joy Global look to the future xecutive leaders from Komatsu Ltd and Joy Global Inc met at MINExpo International 2016 to reaffirm their commitment to pursue new innovations that drive customer benefits after their acquisition E is completed Komatsu and Joy Global announced an agreement in July in which Komatsu will acquire Joy Global During their MINExpo meeting Komatsu President and CEO Ted Ohashi and Joy Global President and CEO Ted Doheny discussed the pursuit of new innovations that can drive customer benefits following the transaction which is expected to be finalized midway through 2017 Our customers are sharing very positive feedback about the agreement Ohashi says Some have approached us at MINExpo to congratulate us on our Komatsu announced plans in July to acquire Joy Global decision We are working closely with Joy Global and relevant authorities to move the process forward According to the companies joining Joy Global with Komatsu will offer customers several benefits Customers can expect a broader line of mining and construction equipment for drilling earthmoving loading and hauling systems as well as solutions for both underground and surface mining In addition to ongoing Joy Global transaction Komatsu America Corp purchased four branches of dealer Road Machinery LLC that will become company owned facilities under the Komatsu Southwest banner One acquired Road Machinery branch is in El Paso Texas while the others are in New Mexico specifically in Albuquerque Carlsbad and Farmington MANUFACTURERS MAJOR WIRE NAMES TWO VPS Major Wire Industries appointed James Siler as vice president of sales for North America and André Mathieu as vice president of global business development Major Wire appointed these two individuals after Gary Pederson vice president of sales for the company announced his retirement MAPTEK DRONE MAKER PARTNER SenseFly a Swiss drone maker signed an agreement with Maptek that enables Maptek to offer customers a data collection and analysis solution Under the terms of the agreement Maptek will provide North American customers in the aggregate and mining industries with senseFlys mapping and inspection drones eBee eBee RTK and albris alongside its I Site Studio 3 D modeling software EDUCATION INSTITUTE OF QUARRYING APPOINTS PRESIDENT The Institute of Quarrying IQ named Miles Watkins as its president following the completion of outgoing president Anthony Morgans two year tenure IQ based in the U K is an international professional body for the aggregate and construction materials industries Miles Watkins with more than 6000 members in 50 countries IQ has partnered with the National Stone Sand Gravel Association on several occasions to promote education and training According to IQ Watkins joined BRE in 2013 to serve as its group business development director after a 17 year position at Aggregate Industries I have always taken a proactive role in our industry Watkins says The scope of my presidency enables me to continue to champion quarrying and the huge benefits we as a sector deliver not just to the U K economy but around the world 8 PIT QUARRY November 2016 pitandquarry com PHOTO AT TOP COURTESY OF KOMATSU LTD Gary Pederson
