W A S H I N G C L A S S I F Y I N G Winnipeg winner Canadian aggregate producer thrives by choosing the right partner with an aggressive plan EDITED BY BRIAN RICHESSON B y any measure the new Inland Aggregates Pine Ridge plant is a massive operation Whats more impressive still is the schedule with which the plant was conceived designed constructed tested and commissioned From a simple desire in early 2005 to a fully operational 1100 tph plant in mid 2008 the Pine Ridge facility proceeded at an enviable pace and now sits as one of the premier aggregate operations in Canada But the most intriguing aspect of this plant is the design concept itself Based just a few miles outside downtown Winnipeg Manitoba the new facility is supplying aggregate to the expanding local markets Sitting on a vast reserve of sand rich dolomite limestone mix the plant is dredge fed the mostly 6 in minus source rock Because of the characteristics of the aggregate the entire plant only needs a single cone crusher The rest of the infrastructure is a system of conveying washing screening and classifying James Kaskiw who served as project manager for the Pine Ridge facility explained the design Mining certainly isnt a big challenge for this operation An extraction dredge simply pulls in the source 32 PIT QUARRY November 2009 www pitandquarry com
