AGG1 Show Issue The AGG1 Aggregates Forum Expo is ready to roll in Cincinnati as NSSGA prepares for its annual convention and second showing of its all in one event B Y D A R R E N C O N S T A N T I N O T he National Stone Sand Gravel Association NSSGA will host the AGG1 Aggregates Forum Expo February 15 18 at the Duke Energy Convention Center in Cincinnati In addition to AGG1 and the co located World of Asphalt NSSGA will hold its annual convention Highlights of this years convention include an Economics Financial Roundtable and a Lafarge Gypsum plant tour The roundtable takes place Wed Feb 17 10 30 a m noon and will include speakers addressing the following The intersection of the financial community and Washington and how this new partnership will effect the economy and industry The outlook for investment management asset management and wealth management according to well informed investment managers An analysis of the trends that will help us recognize patterns in todays economy that are consistent with past economic adjustments and what we can derive from those patterns The new world of banking and the current and future lending outlook Sessions and seminars In addition to the extensive AGG1 educational sessions listed in this section the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health NIOSH will conduct a seminar on Major Risk Assessment Mon Feb 15 8 30 a m 5 00 p m This presentation will introduce an innovative product Major Hazard Risk Assessment developed by NIOSH to help metal non metal companies improve safety performance This presentation will include examples of risk analysis its applications demonstrations through classroom exercises and a discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of the process The Aggregate Technology sessions at AGG1 will present up to date aggregate technical information based on years of research investment Manufactured sand in concrete and advances in proportioning concrete mixes will be the focus of the first session on Tue Feb 16 7 30 a m 9 00 a m Aggregate base and flexible pavement issues will be the focus of the second session from 9 30 a m 11 00 a m The Aggregate Technology sessions are sponsored by the Aggregates Foundation for Technology Research and Education AFTRE as part of their program to educate the industry on the effects of technology on markets production and the aggregate industry in general NSSGA will offer Professional Development Hour PDH credit to qualified individuals attending educational sessions Qualified registrants will receive 15 PDHs for each paid 90 minute educational session attended PDH activities must be relevant to your practice of engineering and should include technical ethical or managerial content PDH units may be obtained through participation in NSSGA committees seminars and workshops vendor demonstrations and presentation of technical papers Several federal agencies will also exhibit at AGG1 including the Mine Safety and Health Administration MSHA NIOSH the Environmental Protection Agency and the U S Geological Survey These agencies are anxious to meet with people from the industry to share information MSHA will be bringing its Mobile Electric Van which offers various training modules Take two Exhibit floor schedule Tue Feb 16 11 15 a m 5 00 p m Wed Feb 17 11 00 a m 5 00 p m Thur Feb 18 9 00 a m 2 00 p m 16 PIT QUARRY February 2010 www pitandquarry com
