Cat showcases mining shovel and more at events C aterpillar introduced its new 6020B hydraulic mining shovel to a gathering of journalists and customers at the companys proving grounds in Tinaja Hills Ariz near Tucson Featuring a standard 157 cu yd bucket and 24 ton payload the unit is well suited for high volume aggregate operations in addition to mining applications The Cat 6020B is a new model in the extensive line of Cat hydraulic mining shovels The clean sheet design features a 247 ton operating weight and teams with the Cat 777G off highway truck for optimized loading and hauling Voice of customer drove the requirements of the machine says Anita Russwurm product introduction manager for the 6020B Every decision every design detail was based on the hundreds of comments we received during our customer research The 6020B features a new state of the art cab and operator station with high visibility provided by the large floor window and expansive windshield and side windows Unrestricted lines of sight to the crawler tracks and pit floor aid the operator when repositioning the shovel and when loading trucks Caterpillar says its new 950M wheel loader delivers 10 percent better fuel efficiency than its K Series predecessors Modular construction with a walk through power module enables easy access to components and superior serviceability the company adds Additionally modular design facilitates shipping and field assembly of the 6020B The single engine configuration also simplifies maintenance The 778 kW 1043 hp Cat C32 ACERT engine powers advanced hydraulics THE LATEST ON EQUIPMENT TECHNOLOGY The 6020B hydraulic mining shovel features a 247 ton operating weight and teams well with the Cat 777G off highway haul truck The 6020B also features an automatic lubricant system to reduce service time and to help ensure durability The hydraulically driven pump supplies grease to the swing bearing the swing gearbox bearing and all pivot points of the attachment The 6020B is configured as a backhoe and delivers improved digging forces for high productivity In addition to the Tinaja Hills event Cat rolled out new equipment at an event at its headquarters in Peoria Ill including the 323F and 335F hydraulic tracked excavators According to Cat the excavators were designed with lower operating costs and enhanced performance in mind We focused on reducing operating costs for our customers says Brian Stellbrink a Cat product specialist We also focused on performance and jobsite versatility By reducing the engine speed and increasing the hydraulic pump displacement Stellbrink says Cat was able to accomplish both goals At the end of the day were seeing fuel consumption reduced up to 10 percent on the 323 compared to its predecessor the E Series machines and up to 17 percent on the 335 he says Another machine the 950M wheel loader was showcased Cat says the 950M was designed to improve customer efficiency It features joystick steering and has optimized linkage The 950M also features a Tier 4 engine and a five speed Cat power shift transmission Cat says the machine delivers 10 percent better fuel efficiency than its K Series predecessors 10 PIT QUARRY December 2014 www pitandquarry com
