Washing on the go A s any owner or manager of portable aggregate equipment knows time is money When revenue revolves around processing material at multiple locations the goal is always to pull onto a site set up and start up as quickly as possible Denis Osborn production manager for the United Companies can attest to the difference even a day of extra setup time can make in terms of production goals United Companies an Oldcastle Materials subsidiary based in Grand Junction Colo operates its portable aggregate plants in 18 sand and gravel sites within a 700 mile radius covering Colorado and Wyoming The company moves each of its four crushing plants and four washing plants from six to 12 times a year Because of its exceptional need for portability United Companies was a good candidate to test KPI JCIs Fast Pack crushing screening plant in 2002 United Companies quickly mastered the learning curve the Fast Pack presented and within a year was able to set up and begin processing material in less than three hours The company now owns three Fast Pack plants each consisting of a Pioneer 3042 jaw plant two JCI 8023 horizontal screen plants two JCI Kodiak 400 cone plants a Kolberg Series The KPI JCI 1830PHB washing and screening plant is seen here after setup 33 telescoping conveyor three Kolberg Series 13 conveyors a Kolberg Series 11 conveyor a PEP high frequency screening plant by Astec Mobile Screens and a pop up design control trailer These rapid deployment plants can produce up to 600 tph But transporting and erecting the companys washing plants which typically finish the material after the crushers move on have historically presented challenges that revolve around time and money Our washing plants had all consisted of a separate blademill plant A single chassis screening washing plant provides a Colorado company with quick setup and increased production EDITED BY DARREN CONSTANTINO P O R T A B L E P L A N T S 16 PIT QUARRY December 2009 www pitandquarry com
