THE LATEST ON EQUIPMENT TECHNOLOGY John Deere demos new offerings at Coal Valley Rally in Illinois J ohn Deere hosted a Coal Valley Rally in the Quad Cities area of Illinois and Iowa More than two dozen journalists attended the event including Pit Quarry Editor in Chief Darren Constantino where they learned about the companys new E Series skid steers and compact track loaders and the 644K Hybrid wheel loader Activities included a tour of the John Deere Davenport Works in Davenport Iowa a visit to John Deere Pavilion in Moline Ill and various equipment demonstrations at the companys Coal Valley Ill training facility Journalists also had an opportunity to operate the equipment The 664K Hybrid has an operating weight of 40000 lbs and features a 475 cu yd bucket With its six cylinder engine running at a constant rpm the unit runs quieter than the conventional 644K model and operates on 25 percent less fuel the company says Operating the loader at 1500 rpm or lower instead of the default 1800 rpm results in even more fuel savings The 644K also features a comfortable cab and customizable operator controls The company will also be introducing a 9 cu yd hybrid unit the 944K Hybrid Manufacturer briefs Swank named Philippi Hagenbuch president Danette Swank has been promoted to president at Philippi Hagenbuch Inc She previously served the company as vice president of internal operations and has Swank been involved in Philippi Hagenbuch operations since 1997 Former President LeRoy Hagenbuch will remain as chief engineer Liebherr names president Peter Mayr was appointed president of Liebherr Construction Equipment Co effective July 1 Mayr took on a variety of roles within Liebherr over his 12 years including his most recent position as managing director for Liebherr Great Britain Ltd and Liebherr Rental Ltd Mayr began his Liebherr career in 2001 working in Austria where he was responsible for the sales support of dozers Hitachi extends partnership Hitachi Construction Machinery Co Ltd renewed its exclusive partnership agreement with Immersive Technologies for five years The partnership will facilitate the ongoing development and support of a range of equipment simulators which are designed by Immersive Technologies for equipment operator training and workforce development Atlas Copco opens center in Ohio Representatives from Atlas John Deere demonstrates its new 644K Hybrid wheel loader right against its conventional 644K model Weir develops new line of crushers screens Weir Minerals launched its Enduron range of crushers screens and feeders for the mining sand and aggregate industries According to the company the new equipment extends its existing line of mill circuit products The Enduron line will be sold and serviced through Weirs existing global teams Continued on page 16 14 PIT QUARRY August 2013 www pitandquarry com
