Coming soon The upcoming MINExpo International is expected to be significantly larger than the previous event BY KEVIN YANIK M INExpo International 2012 takes place Sept 24 26 at the Las Vegas Convention Center Sponsored by the National Mining Association the event is the mining industrys largest exhibition of equipment services and technologies Eighteen hundred exhibitors will showcase their products and services over an 850000 sq ft exhibition space that covers 12 indoor halls and outdoor areas Thats 40 percent more exhibit space than the 600000 sq ft used four years ago Following Mondays 8 30 a m ribbon cutting in the convention centers Grand Lobby exhibits in the North and Central Halls South Hall 3 and the outdoor Silver Lot will open at 9 a m Exhibits will open at 9 a m every day and close at 5 p m Among the special events in which trade show attendees can participate are luncheons Tuesday and Wednesday The annual Sentinels of Safety Luncheon which recognizes operators with outstanding safety records and encourages the development of more effective accident prevention programs will take place Tuesday On Wednesday the U S Department of the Interior Awards Luncheon will take place Tickets to each luncheon are 45 An educational program with 20 sessions will address timely and pressing issues affecting the mining industry with industry professionals leading discussions The information shared at these sessions scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday mornings will help participants get ahead of the changes and developments affecting the mining industry Professional development credits can be earned for those who attend sessions Additionally MINExpo attendees looking for an escape in Las Vegas can participate in a variety of offsite paid tours starting with a Black Canyon river raft adventure Sunday Sept 23 Participants can also tour Red Rock Canyon or Hoover Dam Ticket prices range from 80 to 195 depending on the event Key events Exhibits North and Central Halls South Hall 3 Silver Lot outdoors Monday through Wednesday 9 a m to 5 p m Educational programs Tuesday and Wednesday only 8 a m to 10 a m and 10 15 a m to 12 15 p m Sentinels of Safety Luncheon Tuesday 12 30 p m to 2 p m U S Department of the Interior Awards Luncheon Wednesday 12 30 p m to 2 p m 34 PIT QUARRY August 2012 www pitandquarry com
