THE LATEST ON EQUIPMENT TECHNOLOGY Caterpillar talks Tier 4 C aterpillar held a ConExpo Con Agg press conference hosted by company chairman and CEO Doug Oberhelman He said Tier 4 is the most significant product development in Caterpillar history Oberhelman emphasized sustainability saying remanufactured equipment is big business for Cat and is economically friendly He also touted the companys hybrid and electric powered offerings Oberhelman says he is very guardedly optimistic about the economy and extremely encouraged to hear the president proposing a new highway bill Oberhelman noted that the industry including Caterpillar and the Association of Equipment Manufacturers is supporting a standard for equipment generated data which will help operations with mixed brand fleets Also at the press event Caterpillar discussed Cat Connect a new framework for construction technologies and W S Tyler reaching out to producers that use older equipment Producers who own W S Tyler or C E Tyler vibrating screens manufactured before 1997 are eligible for a free machine inspection and consultation when they register their vibrating screens for the Tyler Classic Service Program According to a press release the holding company that owned W S Tyler in 1997 sold seven manufacturing plants to different buyers The contact information and technical specifications for many producers who owned W S Tyler and C E Tyler machines Producers can take advantage of the Tyler Classic Service Program by calling 800 325 5993 were lost during this transition W S Tyler is now reaching out to find those unknown producers so it can work with them to ensure their equipment is still operating effectively and help them with maintenance related issues Weve been receiving phone calls from customers who found us through the Internet because they simply didnt know where to turn when sourcing parts and service for their pre 1997 Tyler machines says Douglas Lima Chairman and CEO Doug Oberhelman discussed Tier 4 technology and new equipment at Caterpillars press conference services It is designed to help customers monitor manage and enhance operations and gain more control of jobsites Using data from technology equipped machines customers get more information and insight into equipment and performance than ever before W S Tyler service manager The Tyler Classic Service Program is our proactive effort to find them and provide the service they need According to W S Tyler the Tyler Classic Service Program is a free onsite consultation that includes inspection of the vibrating screen shaft assembly and body as well as the mounting system drive and screen media During an inspection a technician will inventory components and develop a customized plan for parts that require further measuring or inspection In addition W S Tyler along with Major Wire Industries announced new plans related to their existing partnership Each company will maintain its North American key customers with a few guidelines For example W S Tyler will continue to serve its key accounts original equipment manufacturers and all customers requiring fine mesh and synthetic screen media W S Tyler will supply woven wire to Major Wire dealers in central and western Canada W S Tylers stores will sell synthetic screening media fine mesh equipment and related services Major Wire meanwhile will continue to sell through its dealer network Coming in May Look for a ConExpo Con Agg equipment and technology review in your next issue 12 PIT QUARRY April 2014 www pitandquarry com
