Thats a wrap Charlotte was a busy place for the industry last month as NSSGA held its big exposition and annual national convention BY DARREN CONSTANTINO AND BRIAN RICHESSON T he 2012 AGG1 and World of Asphalt expositions posted record numbers for attendee registrants and exhibitors according to event organizers The colocated shows were held March 13 15 at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte N C Attendee registration numbers totaled more than 6500 at the shows conclusion Registrants came from all 50 states all 10 Canadian provinces and more than 50 other countries worldwide The show floor covered a record 115000 plus net sq ft of exhibit space a 30 percent increase taken by a record number of 408 exhibitors Leading companies showcased their newest products and technologies aimed at the aggregates asphalt pavement maintenance and traffic safety industry sectors Education is a cornerstone of the shows and 6200 plus education session tickets were purchased by attendees for the shows signature learning programs AGG1 Academy AGG1 AGGREGATES FORUM EXPO This years AGG1 Aggregates Forum Expo featured a record number of show exhibitors Asphalt Pavement Conference and People Plants and Paving Training Program More than 20 industry organizations were official supporters of AGG1 and World of Asphalt and the shows are industry owned and operated AGG1 is owned by the National Stone Sand Gravel Association NSSGA World of Asphalt is owned by the National Asphalt Pavement Association the Association of Equipment Manufacturers AEM and NSSGA AEM produces both shows Next years AGG1 is scheduled for March 19 21 2013 in San Antonio Keynote address Nina Easton Fox News political analyst and Washington columnist and senior editor for Fortune magazine lauded the aggregates industry in her keynote address at NSSGAs annual convention saying There are lot of industries that claim to be the Fortune magazines Nina Easton delivered the keynote address backbone of America or the engine that drives America but you are it Easton continued As America rebounds and grows you will be the foundation of our future too Thanks for all that you do Eastons wide ranging remarks addressed the current state of the nations political situation and economy She said that given that the industry faces an unemployment rate double that of the country at large it is imperative that the Members of various associations including the National Stone Sand Gravel Association cut the ribbon to mark the opening of AGG1 and World of Asphalt 2012 34 PIT QUARRY April 2012 www pitandquarry com
